NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — As the seasons change and the temperature drops, more people are getting sick.
Austin Sherman is a Physician Resident with Novant Health.
He said that many who get sick this time of year often take Mucinex, as it is an effective medication. But there are other ways to battle seasonal allergies and sicknesses.
Sherman recommended getting adequate rest, staying hydrated, and using honey as a cough suppressant.
“Viruses do not discriminate. They definitely can target and hit anybody. So if you have kiddos that are in daycare, that’s usually where a lot of kids will get sick from,” Sherman said. “But, just to be mindful that those viruses can come back home with you and they can definitely spread to your other kids, to adults as well, and especially the elderly.”
Sherman said it is best to consult your physician if you feel you are dealing with these seasonal allergies and sicknesses.
He said some of those symptoms can be a disguise for COVID or the flu.
